THIS IS HOW WE WORK TOGETHER - STEP BY STEP - TO CREATE YOUR CUSTOM PACKAGING SOLUTION

INDIVIDUELLE VERPACKUNGSENTWICKLUNG

Packaging primarily serves as a wrapping for the respective product: ensuring smooth logistics and provides adequate product protection. However, it also serves – and this is no less important – as an information carrier as well as a brand ambassador, influencing preferences such as consumer purchasing behavior. In the healthcare sector, we also offer packaging machines tailored to the special and sensitive needs of individual customers in the medical or pharmaceutical sector. This also includes sterile packaging that is designed to ensure product sterility right up to the point of use. Packaging is thus designed to fulfil an enormous range of functions – plus widely diverse customer requirements. A packaging concept is therefore an essential part of the packaging development process.

In order to be able to select the best possible solution, our experts always keep the following criteria in mind throughout the entire process:

  • The specifications of the product
  • What customers expect from the packaging
  • Pre-packing and finishing processes
  • Sustainability and recyclability
  • Compliant and safe solutions for the healthcare sector

FROM PACKAGE CONTENTS TO PACKAGING: EXAMPLE – SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING

1

Development and design process

2

Manufacturing process for the different forms and blisters

3

Production of a sample package

The development and design process is particularly important here as we can respond to individual wishes. In the first step, we therefore jointly define specifications and requirements for the product or packaged goods:

  • Min./max. dimensions/format
  • Film distribution and form stability
  • Nestability of the blisters and packaging
  • Definition of presentation at the point-of-sale
  • Design, appearance, and appeal as well as general visual and haptic features

We then move on to the generation and provision of CAD data for the packaged product. The CAD system is then used for brainstorming, concept development, and positioning before the card design can be created. This is followed by the CAD blister construction and the design of the packaging. And finally, a blister drawing is created.

KOCH AS GENERAL CONTRACTOR

Sometimes you need more than just a packaging machine: To ensure that everything comes from a single source, KOCH will, on request, provide support as a partner or general contractor. In this function, we accompany you through every stage of the project – from theoretical planning and implementation right down to production. Our approach to this is very innovative and involves developing concepts and holistic solutions that go beyond the mere packaging machine. In addition, KOCH also acts as a consulting expert to ensure that the components are optimally matched. With the KOCH packagingLine, upstream or downstream processes are also tied in. We assume the risk and responsibility for ensuring the perfect interaction of all components and that the line runs reliably. To this end, we supply everything from a single source. This enables us to work with our customers to create a product that meets all requirements.

QUALIFICATION OF PACKAGING MACHINES

Packaging of sensitive products must meet the highest safety requirements. Manufacturers of medical and pharmaceutical products are therefore required to prove through validation measures that certain procedures and processes are exactly reproducible. Risk-based qualification of equipment sustainably ensures process stability and robustness in the production of healthcare products and is mandatory from a regulatory perspective.

KOCH has therefore been supporting customers in just such projects for many years and, if required, handles the complete qualification of complex production equipment. Based on our extensive experience, we have been able to develop a comprehensive service package, which is documented during the course of the project in compliance with standards and directives (based on GMP, FDA, GAMP 5 and ISO guidelines). This comprehensive service package for the qualification of production facilities includes:

  • applying KOCH’s long-standing experience and know-how,
  • documenting processes in line with relevant standards and guidelines throughout the project,
  • qualification based on GMP, FDA, GAMP 5 and ISO guidelines, as well as
  • requalification measures or individual validation requirements, as requested.

Qualification according to the above-mentioned standards is at the heart of the European and international regulations for the healthcare sector. The KOCH qualification service in documentation and testing thus also carries the medplus® brand.

QUALIFICATION DOCUMENTATION BY KOCH

During the qualification of packaging machines, we check and document the technical aspects of a packaging system over the entire course of the project. If included in the scope of the order, all process- and quality-relevant measuring points are also checked at the same time (or calibration is carried out). The qualification documentation can include the following components:

Basic package:

  • QPL (Qualification Project Plan)
  • FS (Functional Specification)
  • HDS (Hardware Design Specification)
  • SDS (Software Design Specification)
  • RKA (GMP risk analysis)
  • IQ (Installation Qualification)
  • OQ (Operational Qualification)

Extended package:

  • + TM (Traceability Matrix) w/o FAT/SAT

Premium package:

  • + TM (Traceability Matrix) w/ FAT/SAT (Traceability Matrix)
  • + RKA workshop
  • + Customer-specific FAT protocol
  • + Customer-specific SAT protocol

YOUR GO-TO EXPERT FOR MACHINE SAFETY

Our extensive know-how and long-standing experience in the field also make KOCH a strong partner when it comes to machine safety. Our design engineers prepare a risk assessment for each system in accordance with the statutory machine guidelines. To this end, a team of machine safety technicians inspects each individual machine as prescribed by the applicable directives and carries out the necessary measures, such as marking hazardous points.

In addition, we offer the following services:

  • Preparing SISTEMA calculations
  • Testing noise emissions
  • Measuring energy levels
  • Drawing up the final protocol
